  • “My balcony is right there, so why do I never use it?

I have a balcony right outside my bedroom. I can see it every morning, but honestly? I barely ever open the door. It’s right there, but it feels like it’s in another zip code.

I used to think I was just too busy, but after looking at my room, I realized it’s not the balcony’s fault. It’s just too much effort to get there.

The “Invisible Wall” in my room

In my room, I have to walk around the bed, dodge a laundry basket, and reach for a door handle hidden behind a heavy curtain. By the time I get there, the “vibe” is gone. Even a few extra steps can turn a natural habit into a “chore.” If the path is broken, the space dies.

We live where our eyes are looking

Another thing is my desk. It faces the opposite wall, so my back is to the window all day. Even though there’s a whole world outside that glass, it’s not in my “line of sight.” If your furniture faces away from the light, the balcony just becomes a background you never look at.

How I fixed my “Awkward Distance

I decided to make some small changes, and it actually worked:

    • I cleared the path: I moved the clutter and made a straight line from my desk to the door. It’s so much easier now.
    • I changed my view: I tilted my chair toward the window. Now that I see the sky more often, I naturally want to open the door. After all, the air in my room is precious!
    • I switched to lighter curtains: I replaced my old, heavy ones. Now they slide open with just one finger. It was such a good choice because I find myself reaching for them all the time.

A balcony shouldn’t be a place you “travel” to. It should feel like an extension of your room. If the path feels even a little bit annoying, that balcony is just going to sit there gathering dust.
